In July 2010 there were 34 homes sold gorge wide compared to 56 homes sold gorge wide last month. This is the total number of homes sold in July 2010 for the Columbia Gorge Region: Hood River & Wasco Counties in Oregon, Klickitat & Skamania Counties in Washington. These are the cities and towns reporting sales. These sales are only LISTED sales not FSBO's or unlisted sales.
But first, here's a month by month look at total gorge sales this year compared to 2009: The good news is that even though sales still feel slow, look at how they compare to the same month last year. The market has picked up substantially, at least for the first 4 months.

The Hood River Waterfront Park is a welcome addition to the community. The park is located along the Oregon bank of the Columbia River. There are walking paths, benches, a sandy beach and swimming area, picnic shelters, restrooms, grassy areas and play equipment. My grandchildren love to visit this park. There is a climbing wall, spinning equipment, a large wooden xylophone and things for drumming on. If you have some kids who need to burn off energy, this is a good place to bring them. When the kite sailors are on the river it's a fun and colorful sight to watch. Sometimes my husband and I take our lunch and go sit at the park to watch all the activity going on. The gorge and river scenery is beautiful as well.

Do you know that more than 70% of the energy used in our homes is for appliances, refrigeration, space heating, cooling, and water heating? Replacing old appliances and equipment with those that are ENERGY STAR labeled can help American families save significantly on their utility bills. Each state and territory has selected its own set of ENERGY STAR qualified products to rebate, based on this DOE list of recommended appliances:

We are completing the cultured stone on the tapered column of the newest house we've built. We used Owens Corning Cultured Stone Country Ledgestone for this application. The color is called Bucks County. There is more stonework in the house; the interior part of the tapered column and the wall behind the woodstove. The chimney on the roof will be faced in cultured stone as well.

This house is located in Hood River's East Stonegate neighborhood. I'm glad this historic building has a new use for many to enjoy. Thanks Colleen for writing about this.
Via Colleen Bergsma Real Estate: It was mid afternoon, just after the lunchtime rush and before the 4PM performance of local musician Victor Johnson when we stopped by Clock Tower Ales on Sunday. We were looking for a late lunch and decided to try one of the beer samplers along with our Caesar Salad and Grilled Roast Beef and Brie sandwich. Clock Tower Ales specializes in craft beers and you can sample 6 beers of your choice for $8.00. Choices range from Pilsner, IPAs and Blue Paw Ale to Hazel Nut Brown Nectar, Tree Hugger Porter, Guinness and many others. There are also wine and cider selections as well as non alcoholic beverages. The food menu is light pub fare featuring pizzas, salads, soups and "starters" such as dips and chips, hummus and a meat and cheese plate.
Clock Tower Ales opened earlier this year and has recently added outside seating in the form picnic tables on the front lawn of the historic building. Originally the second Wasco County Courthouse, built in 1881, the stately old brick building in the center of downtown The Dalles features the signature clock and tower that inspired the pub's name. For many years after it was vacated by the county, the building housed a funeral home as well as a meeting place for the Masonic Lodge. It is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is located at 311 Union Street in The Dalles. Hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 11AM-10PM (9pm Sunday). They have free wi-fi!
Not familiar with The Dalles? The Dalles, Oregon is a small rural town steeped in history, 80 miles East of Portland in the Columbia River Gorge. It has been a meeting place for native tribes of the Northwest for over 10,000 years. Lewis & Clark camped here and it is on the Oregon Trail. The Dalles sits right on the Columbia River, the border between Oregon and Washington, 20 miles East of Hood River, one of the windsurfing/kiteboarding capitals of the world. We're one to 3 hours away from mountain climbing on Mt. Hood, white-water rafting on the Deschutes River, shopping and dining in Portland or walking the Pacific Coast Beaches. Google has a large data center here, next to the Columbia River to access its cooling water supply. Real Estate in The Dalles is scenic and varied. July 2, 2010- Tonight's the night for First Friday in downtown Hood River
July 2, 2010- Downtown Hood River Chalk Art Contest. Registration is from noon-1:00 pm. Chalk drawing from1-4 pm. Judging at 4:30 and winners announced at 5:30 in the lobby at Columbia Center for the Arts. There will be the following categories- adult, teen-13-17, adult/child team, children 3-5, children 6-9, children 10-12
July 4, 2010- 4th of July is a fun day in Hood River. This year since 4th of July is on Sunday, the parade will start later than usual. "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave."is this years theme. The parade starts at 12th & Pacific at 12:30 Firework Show (Hood River Lions) on the Waterfront @ dusk (10pm)
