In general I would say no. But I would suggest discussing this question with your local agent. They will have much more insight into the appreciation or depreciation you might expect from that property.

Also read some of the other responses and think long and hard about the questions you need to ask yourself about living in this home.

Personally, if you're ever planning on moving again, I think its a bad idea. Not much of a view if you ask me... lol

That is a very good area of Pearland and I think it is a great place to live. I do not think the proximity to that shopping center will have any effect on the value of housing in that area.

It's not the Pearland Town Center. it's the silverlake shopping plaza. So we'd be behind Target, Ross, that kind of stores.

It depends if you like the house... It depends on the shopping center. ie; food grocery retail or what. A lot of factors are in play. If you are talking about the Pearland Towne Center, you are properly fine...

Whether you're interested in buying your first home, your next home, or just want to know more about home-ownership in general, I encourage you to check out a couple of great online resources: texasrealestate.com or har.com and for all of your Pearland TX and Northern Brazoria and Galveston County real estate needs, please visit my site at danfrankrealty.com. All of these sites offer tons of useful, real estate-related information geared specifically for Texans.

There would be some affect on resale down the road. It would depend on if the shopping was upscale or not. A lot of home owners would rather not look out the back of their homes to rear of commercial buildings. An alley can sometimes breed unwanted guests walking behind your home, i.e. security issues, etc.

depends on the shopping center. Does it have a fast food place in it. I have seen houses just behind a fried chicken place. I like fried chicken but do not want to smell it 24/7. Look around, is it a pleasant area? If it is high end store might be good might not, talk to the neighbors see what they like and do not like. find out how long it normally takes to sell a house.
