I am looking for a home in Seattle but i work on the East Side. How bad is the traffic after work driving back over 520?

About how long does it usually take to do that ride with traffic? I want to continue living in Seattle but I also want to move to a place convenient to me that will maximize my time.

It is quite bad I'm afraid. Like Matt says, I-90 is most likely your best bet.

For the longterm, once the 520 goes to toll pricing there will be a premium placed on all eastside real estate from that point. Something to consider for your next home purchase!

Hi Nicole,
My office is in Bellevue so I can relate! You would be going against traffic, no pun intended. Depending on the time of day and where are on the eastside,I would guess 20-40 minutes. As far as Belltown goes, I would not recommend it because it's a very high crime area. It has the drug traffic in the city as well and hookers are prolific. If I wouldn't live there I wouldn't want you to. Let me know where you'll be working and can be of more help with neighborhoods.

I agree with Matt. It all depends on what you consider a long commute and where on the East Side will your job be and what time of the morning you leave? A great site that may help you out is city-data.com the have a great forum where you can get a ton of opinions and travel times depending on time of the morning etc.

I try to avoid rush hour traffic heading west on 520. It's not much further to I-90, and a much quicker commute in my experience. Having lived in Chicago and San Francisco I can say that 90% of Seattle's bad traffic is really not that bad. However, rush hour on 520 comes pretty darn close.

I-90 all the way.
